has anyone used weights to hold down a cover? most covers are designed to be used with the pontoon on the trailer. here in the south I keep the boat in the water all year and need a simple way to keep it covered that allows easy removal.

Re: covers

Up here in Minnesota I leave my pontoon in all summer. We're retired and only go to the lake Monday through friday. There's open camping at the place we have our trailer so we let the young families with kids and the party animals have the weekends:)

Anyway, quite a few people leave their pontoons in slips all summer long. We do get some wind up here and I don't think weights would work very well. Pretty much everyone I know has their cover held on with snaps up here. Fitted and snapped to the rails. We take it off when we get there and put it on when we go home. Takes about ten minutes.

Re: covers

Welcome to iboats.

I seen covers held down with quart milk jugs with some water in them, it should work but seems like it would be kind of a pain.

Most covers are like mjc has and they snap to the rail of the boat.

Re: covers

Pontoon covers (playpen or full covers) are like giant umbrellas if wind can get under them so snapping them down to the rail is the method of choice. You also want at least two but preferably three poles to "tent" the cover to prevent water pooling on it. Get a big puddle of water on a pontoon cover and every seam will tear. Those covers occupy lots of surface area.
