I'm wondering about how to clean my cockpit cover as well as my camper top. I saw a show on TV where they advise just to put them in the washing machine and put on the boat to dry. They further recommended to water proof them and treat the snaps with dry...I thought they said teflon, but I could be wrong. Stating that petroleum jelly draws dirt. Any suggestions?<br />Gilbert.

Re: Covers

I'm no expert but there is no way in hell I would put my canvas in the washing machine. (twisting aspect of the agitator, incomplete rinse, no concentration on areas of heavy staining, etc.)Use a good quality cleaner and a soft brush. I would use the type of weather proof spray they use on boots and the like. (Cabella's dry plus) I would apply it to the seams only cuz if it leaks from anywhere else you won't solve it without major work or replacement.

Re: Covers

We always use Spic & Span with added chlorine bleach. The chlorine gets rid of black mildew stain, if you give it 10-20 miinutes to work.
