I have a 1982 20hp Johnson Canadian made short shaft. My question is what other cowls will fit like 18s, 25s, 30s, 35s.
I want to find the cheapest cowl so I can paint it over for duck hunting use, I am not going to paint the whole motor as it devalues the outboard itself.

Go to a graphics shop and get a "wrap" for the cover. It can later be removed w/o doing harm to the original finish. Used on cars and trucks all the time.

No disrespect intended but I would really like both as it will be dual use.
So I hope I can get a answer from someone that would know so I can shop for one.
Thanks

Re: Cowl Question Regarding a 20hp Canadian Made Johnson Outboard

The 1980s era 20hp used the same basic cowling as the 20, 25, 28, 30 and 35 from the mid 1970s on up into the 1990s, at least as far as the footprint being similar enough to be swap-able. HOWEVER, make sure that if you have a rope-start model, you get one with the rope start hole in the front, and vice-versa - if you have an electric start model, make sure you get one without the hole...
