Cowl Soundproofing

Hello,

My cowl hood (motor cover) has some foam remains in it, not sure if that is factory or not, but I'd like to replace it to keep the noise down in the boat. Do you have any recommendations? Dynamat with thermal rating? Some foam? Or would soundproofing make any difference? (1985 force 125)

Thanks.

I suggest trying to find the noise deading stuff that people use in their houses. I think it is called acoustical insulation. I wouldn't use foam as it expands and is hard to control. You don't want it to expand someplace where it can hit your flywheel.

Hope this helps,

John

The stuff they used at the factory was just cheap foam that was siliconed in place. It lasted a couple of years and then let loose and ended up in the starter the flywheel and the carbs.MESSY!!!!
It really isn't necessary to replace. If you do make sure you get a good quality
foam that is resistant to fuel/oil.Jerry

I wouldnt mess with it imo, just more crap to foul up your carbs. Mine still has the original foam in it and its shredding everywhere. IMO i dont think that the noise deadening material is really going to make that big of a difference. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking about that dynamat that you put in car doors to deaden road noise, but I doubt its up to the task of fending off oil, gas, and grease. The engine is much quieter with good timing, so I think I'm gonna leave it put and not deal with the mess it makes. I was only thinking about the stuff burning, I didn't think about it creating problems by falling apart.
