Cracked Block 5.7GS PLKD Need Replacement GM 5.7 350 96, but would like to upgrade

What else would I have to replace to change out a 96 GM 5.7 350 with the 97 to current GM 5.7 350? Would it just be the intake manifold or would there be other parts needed to be changed out to make the upgrade?

Also, is it worth the extra money for just 50 more horsepower? Some web sites say the new motor gets better gas mileage, but I don't know about that.

Ayuh,... Vortec motors are 96 to present...

Look at your intake to see if it's 8 bolt, or 12 bolt...
Your 96 might be a 95,.. But, if it's a 96, you're already there...

I'm not sure what you are reading, but there is not a 50 hp difference between a 96 carbed engine to a 97. Besides, you have a 5.7GSPLKD which is a 97 year model, the next year is 5.7GSPBYC and both are listed at 250 hp.
Had you had a GL instead of a GS, the L means it's limited and only had 215 hp.
To get more than 250 hp, you have to go EFI, they are in the 300 to 320 hp range. $$$$$$$$

I wish i could count them. They are all covered in with milk shake oil. :-(
