im supposed to splash my boat this weekend and i have a slight crack in the bottom of my exhaust manifold. with the boat running there is a couple drips out of the manifold into the bildge. would it be a problem for me to us the boat for about an hour or so before i get the new manifold? the part will not be in till monday..PS the engine temp is normal

Re: cracked exhaust manifold

Run it on muffs and then check the oil for signs of water. Also pull the spark plugs and see if any of them on that side look extra clean.water leaking into the cylinder will steam clean the plugs...not good.
I would really wait for the parts...not worth killing an engine..

Re: cracked exhaust manifold

If the manifold is cracked, how about the block? The cracks are because it froze from not being winterized properly.
Before installing the mew manifold, pressure check the block. You may be wasting money on just a manifold.
What engine? If a V6 or 8, you want to replace both manifolds and risers at the same time or you will end up with heating problems.

How is a block pressure tested?

Re: cracked exhaust manifold

thanks for the advice guys. yes the boat was not winterized and yes the blocked was cracked. I bought, rebuilt, and installed a 350. the motor is now as good as new. am i ok with a small crack in the exhaust manifold that leaks water into the bildge. its a slow drip and the engine temp is fine. I do plan on changing the manifold however its not in stock and i dont want to wait to splash the boat.. thanks in advance

Re: cracked exhaust manifold

how would water leaking from the exhaust manifold have anything to do with water in the oil??

Re: cracked exhaust manifold

If it cracked externally from freezing it's highly possible there is an internal crack also. Internal cracks have the ability to dump water into the engine once you shut the engine down.

Re: cracked exhaust manifold

In my crystal ball i see a new thread

Brand new engine won't start
We were skiing etc.... Stopped for lunch....hit the key and heard a loud clunk....the engine wouldn't start.....now what.

Angie, your manifolds are comprimised, you are playing with fire here. Do you really want to risk destroying your brand new engine so you can show off your new toy a week earlier???
