Cracked lower leg

I sent my boat and outboard motor (Johnson 25hp) to the local boat shop, for a tune-up. It was returned after 2 weeks, with a crack (complete seperation) on the mounting boss of the lower leg, that supports the gearcase. The shop had attempted a very dodgey repair to no avail.
They charged us for the tune AND their dodgey repair, while returning the motor in an unserviceable condition. We refused to pay. It is now in court?!?!?!? :(
Has anyone seen this sort of cracking before?
Is it a typical fault, or are these guys really backyard butchers?
Thanks,
Lyn

Was it broke before you took it there? If not, court is the right place to be!

I would say they broke it and are fully responsible, otherwise they would have contacted you when they "found" it broken and asked you to authorize the repair.

And if the repair is substandard, or worse, they are responsible for making it right.

Go get 'em.

Thanks Guys!
It definitely wasn't broken before it went there. Hopefully the judge will be technically minded...
Lyn
