Not sure where to post this but?
Anyone ever have a lower unit crack welded?
I have my old lower unit from my ?96 Suzuki DT115 which is cracked and was thinking of maybe having it repaired for a spare or to sell. Is it possible to aluminum weld it? I know a picture would help but I haven?t gotten around to taking one. The crack is about 1 inch long and bulged out about 1/16? directly on the outside of the main out shaft gear. My guess is the disintegrating upper drive shaft bearing showered pieces down the foot and there was no clearance for the chucks of metal to fit between the gears and the case causing the bulge and crack. I?m not sure how bad the inside is. With a NEW lower unit housing going for $$$$ and a used one going for $700+ not to mention how difficult it is to find them, I thought it might be worth having it repaired IF it is possible.
