Fired up my 1987 4.3 Cobra yesterday and see that I have a small leak in the right exhaust manifold just above the drain. The crack is about an inch wide and level with the floor. The amount of leakage is a small drip.

The engine ran fine and the plugs are not clean, as they would be if water was intruding.

I will be ordering new manifolds. But, should I try to use the boat in the 3 or 4 days before they arrive? I'm thinking it might be OK, as this leak may just be external.

What do you think?

Re: Cracked OMC Exhaust Manifold

when i get in this situation i ask myself "what is the worst thing that can possibly happen if i dont fix this now?" if i can live with the consequences i go for it. in this case i see 2. blow out flooding boat so engine cant be run or you will sink. the crack is on the inside too and may ruin the engine. running whitewater in my jet either one could kill me.
