I have a cracked powerhead in number 2 cylinder with 2 cracks running from the middle to the top of the cylinder...

Can this be repaired by a machine shop?

Since the cylinder liner is supported by the aluminum casting, I doubt that those cracks could be adequately welded. Differential expansion would likely re-crack it. Full penetration welding will most likely damage the aluminum. Anyway, even after full penetration welding, you would need to overbore the cylinder. better off to start looking for a good used block.

If the aluminum is not cracked, these blocks can be re lined for around 200 per cylinder--but you need an experienced machine shop to do this correctly. I haver never had it done. I feel it is more economical to just buy a used block.
