cracked y-pipe vs. thru the hull

Engine is pulled and found a cracked y-pipe. I read many threads about thru the hull exhaust. I'm not concerned about the noise factor, I'll be below the water line and its only a V6.

I have a 1993 4.3L Vortec. I was planning on putting thru the hull because the cost of a new y-pipe (and pipe with water flaps. one is currently stuck in my bellows).

I read a string that said this is very difficult?

Any advice on 3in or 4in?

Where can I find a elbow that will fit with my existing stock parts?

Also I read this can hurt my performance? This does not make any sense to me?

Thanks in advance for your comments and advise!

Not really too hard to do, just get some 4" marine exhaust hose, and 4" exhaust elbows (they should be readily available, try E-bay) or try a search, a couple of thru-hull shorty tips, mount the tips where it's clear, and pipe to it, using cut up sections of exhaust hose, with double hose clamps at every joint. I don't think you'll lose performance over a thru-prop exhaust, but if it were a 3.0 4cyl engine, it might be questionable. Just make sure you leave room for your steering shaft movement.

I would stick with a new Y-pipe.
