Unfortunately, my Volvo 2002 (mounted on a sailship), has a crack in the block, left side, just between two holes. From the crack there is a litle leak of water.
Is it possible to repair with some epoxi? Or it is necessary to weld? Some advice to me?
Thanks in advance.
Gabriel

Welcome to iboats. I think you are the first South American I have seen on here but I am sure there have been many.

There are epoxies that should help. Around here we have JB Weld which is thin and a bit runny. The best kind is Marine Tex. That is more like paste and easier to work with. There is also Alumiweld or Aluminox which comes as a stick of putty that would probably work. Surface preparation is crucial. The surfaces have to be clean and rough.

Welding might be the best solution, but that means you have to take things apart and get new gaskets. I would try the epoxy first. It can always be removed and welded if it does not work.

I epoxied the crack and seems to work. Thanks for your reply.
Gabriel
Buenos Aires, Argentina
