I have a 1994 Rinker Fiesta Vee 265 and have noticed cracks in the bilge by the motor. These cracks are by the bilge pump which is the lowest place in the bilge so there is usually water there. The last couple of years the cracks have not gotten any larger. My first thought was to let the area dry when the boat is hauled in the fall and try to seal the cracks but I'm concerned with sealing moisture in. Is it better to leave the open so the area can dry out through winter months or seal them?

Re: Cracks in the bilge

most likely no core material in the bilge - just solid glass. Fix is epoxy and fiberglass cloth -- the fiberglass provides the strength and a large surface area of fresh fibglass provides the good bond.

Re: Cracks in the bilge

Frequently there are puddles of resin left in the low points of the hull, this resin has little or no strength and will crack easily when stressed or flexed. If there are no cracks on the outside in that area, this may be cause, it isn't good, but it's not really serious either. If there are cracks showing on the outside then it's important to get it fixed soon.

Like already stated, you can sand it down and glass over it, it should be fine after that.

Pics are needed for better, more accurate advice though.

If these cracks are in or around the motor mounts check them for rotten wood.
