There is a lot of play on my spark lever its so bad that when I bring the control back to nuetral, the spark lever wont always come back to it position making the motor have higher rpms when trying to idle. Usually it will also keep rising in rpms too.

I have come to the conclusion that the 2 bushings on the crankcase are worn out. The part numbers are 0314002 and 0314003. One is for the spark lever, but both bushings are on the inside of the bolt. Anyone ever replace these bushings before? is it common? Mine are definitely worn out it seems.

The motor is a 1988ish-1992ish Johnson 60HP.

That certainly is unusual, but anything is possible, I guess.

Model number?

I wish I had one. I have brought this motor to actual Johnson dealers, and they can't even tell me the exact year of this motor. Judging by all the part numbers, it is a late 1980's or early 1990's. I dont see a model number on the freeze plug, or down where it bolts to the transom or anything. I have found a serial number though.

Its unusual for those bushings to wear out? When I mess with the throttle on the motor it has a ton of play right there, and I cant tighten down the bolt on the lever any more than it is. So that tells me the bushings have got to be worn out.

is this a problem that suddenly happened,or is it an engine you receintly purchased,I have to agree with the poster that said these bushings rarly wear out, there could be a possibility that if yournot the original owner, the bushing (s)may have been left out by a backyard mechanic,I dont have a parts breakdown ,and there are different setups for some engines, but ,it is important that your timer base under the flywheel can rotate without ANY snags, often the grease that some use gets hard and the base will not rotate properly, also the ball and socket connections from timerbase and linkages go bad,.Also, before the bushings wear, often the grease around them and the pivot they ride on become hard like the timerbase. It's not a big deal to take it apart and see what you have, there may also be a spring involved that isnt doing its job

Just for everybody's info, the bushings in question are the ones where the verticle throttle lever pivots, contol cable at the bottom end, spark advace rod at the top end.

Correct! I will take it off and investigate. It dissappoints me that these bushing rarely go bad, because that makes me think I may have a larger problem than I truely do. The way the lever wiggles, it just seems as though its worn out and loosened up a bit because of the bushings. Ill check it out and report back asap.
