I was reading Cortes165's post and led me to wonder about the crank in my 89 225 johno.I have just had to replace it due to seized bearings.I have also had to re ring the pistons as well. The rest of the crank seemed to be ok there was no signs of blueness on the journals and the pistons and conrods are in good shape. The compression on four of the cylinders were 90 but two were down at 75 and those two cylinders had slight scuffing.Could anyone tell me if this sounds like an oiling problem or is it just due to wear and tear of on old motor?.Why the siezed bearings wich the mechanic said had got hot,and yet no other signs of excessive heat?

Jim, I've got some shots of our old marina, if you'd like to see them post your e-mail. You cant believe what happens to a boat when the storage building falls down...

Fitzms -- was it just one bearing? Go ahead and post the pic or send it to dhadley50@aol.com.

Re: Crankshaft issues

Thats an upper bearing issue. I doubt it had anything to do with the oiling system. Of all the bearings in the powerhead that is the largest and most forgiving.
