Its been over 2 years now being a good boy. Got to say seeing my friends at the dock acting goofy after a few drinks sorta makes me have a couple. The bad part is they keep going after a couple and then its not acting goofy, but silly stupid. That turns me off of having a good time with their company. Oh well, guess I'll stay with tea and Mt. Dew.......SS

See, the problem is,,,,its been 2 years and 15 days since I have had any alcoholic beverage. Not saying I had a major problem before...well the only problem I had before was running out of beer :D... Seriously, it has been rough for me to keep from drinking this season. Just affraid if I start just with a couple, then it will progress. I look back and didn't like how I was then,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BUT I am missing the taste of a cold cold beer...

They do make some decent non-alcoholic beers...but you will have to conjure up the 'buzz'!

On the other hand...the 'real' deal can make life a whole lot more presentable:

It's non-alcoholic (0.5%), and it tastes GREAT!!!

The bottle looks kinda like the girl in the glass above...;)

O'douls is a pretty good sippin' beer. You can also look into water keifer on the internet - non-alchoholic, you can make it pretty inexpensively, it's refreshing & it has good pro-biotics to boot!

Congratulations on holding to your decision Mayfloat. Personal discipline can be difficult often (I have the problem with food), but in the end you typically are a better person for it. Best to you.

Well I did have a major problem but I had my last one Mar 22, 1977 and yes I am proud of that. Stay away from that near beer crap. It will just make the craving for the real thing a lot worse.

Yep. Reminds me of something my Preacher says every now and then: "If you don't want to go to Minneapolis, then don't get on the bus".

That tells me, anyway, to stay far away from the stuff. You start with a couple it will turn into more, guaranteed. Give it more time. Eventually you'll get to the point where beer just doesn't sound very good. You have 2 years and 15 days under your belt, don't throw it all away now. You've worked very hard to get to this point. Be very proud of yourself, it's a huge accomplishment. :)

I use to be like that. Go have more than enough. Now I don't like it. I like beer (good beer that is), but I usually limit myself to 2 pints when hitting a happy hour and that's about it. Always with some food too. I try to limit myself to two beers when I drink and make it not so often. I get my buzz, but not enough to feel sick, or act stupid. Just enough to join in, take the edge off, and loosen up a bit. I've also learned that quality over quantity is great for drinking beer. My buddies will put back a 12 pack of watered down cheap crap and run to the bathroom all day long. Give me a pint of Guinness and I'm fine sipping on it while they go through 3-4 cans of Coors light or whatever comes in a big cardboard box by the 18 or 24.

If you want to drink (and your not in recovery), just set some limits. Bring 4 beers out on the boat and when they are gone, they're gone. My wife packs the cooler and when my 14 beers are gone, I stop drinking for the day. Its as easy as that. :)

Obviously, you don't understand.

If he has a craving for something that negatively impacts his quality of life, he is in recovery.

He didn't like the way he was in the past, so he made a positive change in his life.

Simply put, Don't risk it SS. Keep up the hard work.

On a lighter note, since I don't have issues with alcohol, I was looking for a way to improve my quality of life.
Women, thats it, women are my problem.

Mom and dad go to AA meetings. So I figured there must be a meeting for me to go to also.

Hmmm, AA, WA ????

I went to find a Women Anonymous meeting and did I get in trouble.

Everything in moderation. If you want a beer, have a beer. A beer. Not a case of beer. Learn to be stronger than your urges and take control. Good job on the 2 years sober, but if you've learned to overcome your issue, you can also learn to control it. You've already done the hard part.

I understand a lot about alcoholics... and from what I've read, SS isn't one of them. A true alcoholic needs to hit a bottom, needs help, enters a program, lives in a halfway house, etc, etc... I know this because I helped bury my cousin that was 8 years older than me just 2 years ago. He died of renal failure after years of abuse. He went thru every program (and prison) we could find for him, but he could not stop. True alcoholics get up in the morning and start boozing so they can function... Recovery happens once you have the disease. I doubt SS falls into this catagory.

IMO, if SS really wants a beer or two, he just needs to set some limits and stick with them.
