Craziest launch I ever saw....

I was going fishing one Saturday morning The launch was about 45 miles away from home. My next door neighbor was to bring his boat and meet me at the launch. I leave before him and am waiting at the launch about 45 minutes when a tow truck pulls up at the launch with a boat and trailer on the flat bed part. (The boat is my neighbor's.) The tow truck backs up to the launch and proceeds to launch the boat. About then my neighbor pulls up in his truck and tells me the whole story. On his way to the launch he ran over a loose manhole cover in a small town he was passing through. The manhole cover popped up and rolled under his trailer and crashed into his boat axle, snapping in in half. The police of the town acknowledged the town was probably at fault and offered to tow his boat and trailer to wherever he wanted to go. I guess most of us would have gone back home but not my neighbor. He went fishing. Even a broken axle couldn't keep him down. A true fisherman. Getting the boat home. Well that's another story

Neat story, Jim! You got to like a guy like that that didn't want to let his friend down. So did you guys catch any fish? By the way, we have time for that other story.

jimpittman,

Your neighbor is a better person than me. I would have called off the trip and had them tow it home.

I'd have had the tow truck stop by a trailer place where I could buy a new axle, then on to the lake. I'd have gone fishing, then come back, installed the new axle on the trailer, then loaded the boat and towed the thing home.

A day on the water is too valuable to waste, eh?

CATransplant said it all. I'd do the same thing. What better way to change the axle, but when the boat is already off the trailer.

I feel the same way ! Last weekend we were headed for the lake and I started to loose tread off a tire (just bought boat 2 months ago and trlr has old tires) So I find a small tire shop that is open on Sunday! And I am half way to home or the lake...hmmmm Guys says he has no trlr tires but has some car tires of the same size he will sell me for 25 each! Put em on I said! So after 64. bucks and it's now 1:00 pm the wife says are we going home? Hell no! had a great day at the lake .And now I have a reason to get new rims and tires for the Trailer this winter when I repaint it :)
