I figured I'd pass this on @ the expense of me looking foolish, but not even sure it was my fault & people can make sure this doesnt happen to them :)
Did a Merc Power Tune aerosol spray in the carbs decarb today while on the water , found a place to hang out, eat lunch & let the solvent penetrate ect..
Anyways I must not have stuck the tube into the Power Tune can properly or deep enough because while spraying the carbs the tube came shooting out..
Ok I figured I'd find the sucker & was able to spray the remainder of the 1/2 full can into my Merc 40 carbs without the tube just fine...
Now, I looked for a good 10 minutes for this tube that shot off the end of the can without any success & figured it was lost but after getting home I took a better looksy @ the situation & found the tube perfectly shot into the carb & into one of the holes in the throttle valve thing that pivots when throttle is increased :)
I had to remove the oil tank & was able to remove it with a pair of needle nose .. :D
It stayed in there flexed when I hit the throttle all the way to the ramp but I'm glad I got it out, who knows  , couldve created a serious issue....
Oh well, happy ending

I've learned over the years to first look for missing things in the MOST inconcievable places. Thats usually where they end up somehow. Maybe its just my luck. So how did the power tune turn out ? I've been thinking of doing it to my motor.

It makes a difference Rod, I believe so.
I use a can for 2 different treatments considering she's only 44 cubes ..
DJ,
I couldnt do that again in a million years, the hole on the right side of that throttle valve wasnt even twice the diameter of the tube..
I'm glad I got it out & next time I'll make sure that tube is seated in the can completly or not even use it, it sprays fine without it right into the carbs even with the oil injection tank in place ..

The first time I did a decarb I launched the tube into the bottom cylinder. Found 2 small pieces of it coming out the exhaust, and another piece in the midsection when I replaced the impeller. 7 years later I am still missing about 3 inches of the tube.

Wow, see that..I lucked out.
I guess you too Roscoe as it seems your motor still ran fine with the broken tube in it..
Another thing I did was shook the heck out of the can before spraying & it was a 95 degree day, maybe that contributed to the high pressure tube projectile condition, LOL

Paul,
thanks for the links,
interesting, more commmon then I thought.
Rodbolt mentioned something about the tube stuck in the reed assembly could be a problem, that was my concern as well..
Next time, no tube when I decarb ..it works just as well without it :)

At least the tube is plastic. About 15 years ago a metal washer fell into the air box on my 1988 Merc 100. Went all the way throught the engine. Like passing a kidney stone, very painful experience. All's well and the engine runs just like new today. Of course, this is only a small part of a much longer story. Another time.
