Create a flush port on a Merc inline

Is there any way to build and install a flush port on an inline? It seems that if fresh water was introduced into the water jacket over the head, it would flush the head, exhaust port and waterpump.

It would seem to be a simple matter to put a tee into the tell tale hose, or use the other threaded port on some inlines, and run it down the to the lower cowl and install it thru the lower cowl, with a quick disconnect.

Anyone think this would not work?

It does sound so straight-forward; doesn't it?

The newer motors flush that way; I'd like to know why more people haven't switched to flushing that way.

My neighbor complains when I run/flush after salt-water. She says that the smoke drifts in through her open windows and stinks up her house.'

What say the experts? Can the older Mercs be rigged to flush without running?

Thanks for reading, Chuck

Actually, I had thought my idea for a flushport would work both running or not. If water pushed into the head waterjacket comes out the waterpump intake (as it does on my '98 Johnny 150), you should be able to flush the motor while running.

Since I have my boat on a lift (above salt water), it is not easy to use the muffs. I had thought the old quick disconnect on the lower cowl would be the most convenient.
