I folded up all my covers and windows last year and stored in dock side storage bin for the summer (30' express crusier) When I put them back on in the fall the plastic (supposedly eisenglass but think I was mislead when bought the boat) was severely wrinkled, crinkled, ugly, difficult to see through, etc. Any simple guidance to fix? Can I use hair dryer without damaging? Will that help? Do i just have to replace windows? If it gets beetter from one of your suggestion or through summer heat how should i store these so I do not have the same issue next fall? Mucho thanks for the help.

Re: Crinkled windows?????

I have a camper top on my boat and have the same problem.
I have used a heat gun to "relax" the windows and it works pretty well.
A hair dryer won't get you enough heat and will take forever.
Just be careful not to sit on one spot too long, keep it moving and you should be fine.
Mine is on a fishing boat so it is stored more than it is used, just watch when you roll it and try to keep it nice and even.

Lay them out in the sun on a blanket. For storing them in the future you should roll them up preferrably with a towel so they won't scratch. You will have sticker shock when it's time to replace them!!

They really should be stored flat.

Last fall, I made pouches for my eisenglass. I carefully rolled them up with fabric between layers and stored them inside my house for the winter. I took one out and it looks like the day I stored them. I'd let them set out in the sun so that they get warm then carefully roll them out.

Re: Crinkled windows?????

Since I'm in the Pacific Northwest I may have to wait until July to have a enough sun to warm up the windows so I will try the heat gun first. I would love to lay out all the canvas & windows flat for storage but who has that much room? I will roll vs. fold this year.

Thanks

Interesting"eisenglass" In the old horse and buggy days "eisenglass" was a mineral ,kind of like quartz, used as windows for buggies.you used to see it in wood stove doors early kerosene heaters old fashioned stove top ovens etc.Somewhat flexible looked like brittle scratchy plastic.

If you have trouble seeing through plastic windows they can be buffed new just as you would buff a cars paint. This also works well on old Jeeps etc.:)

Re: Crinkled windows?????

You use just regular rubbing compound?
I have done that on plastic headlights but never thought to do it on my window plastic, that is why I changed it last year, it was too hard to see through.
I will keep that in mind.
