crossflow or looper?

hey folks. I bought a 17 ft doral this spring with an 86 johnson 150 hp j150tlcdc. the motor wasn't running when i bought it but i got it working pretty good now, with the exception of a poor idle. Is this motor a crossflow or a looper and whats the difference between them?

your engine is cross charged.

the difference is the way of scavening, in a cross charged engine intake and exhaust ports are opposite , at a looper upstream. i think the net gives some more information about this.

If you have even compression, the poor idle could be debris lodged in the idle circuits of the carbs. May be time to disassemble them and do a good cleaning on the internals.
