Wanting to get a opinion/info/experiences thread started. I have a crossflow 140 I love it. I think it was in 86 that manufacturers started rating on the prop instead of engine?? As in autos I'm sure the drivetrain will eat up 15 or so hp. What if anything can you do to bump up old crossflows to that of a looper. Or to at least get them to make the stated hp at the prop?? Is it fisable to do so?? I would guess air flow would be a major factor...porting and such?? What can you do to a crossflow to inhance performance?? Would it be better to just find a good looper?? Just wondering what everyone thought...what kind of performance do you get out of your crossflows and loopers??

Re: Crossflow vs Looper performance??

There is a lot of little things to "get more" such as port & piston mod's,head swaps, carb swaps, exhaust & ignition mod's. The draw backs is life span shortened, hole shot slower, higher octane fuel, but great top end!!!! Looper is easier to mod and will get more performance per mod than a cross flow. Example: I can do a slight mod in the cylinders of a looper(about a hour) and get 10-15 psi compression increase without tearing down motor!!!

Re: Crossflow vs Looper performance??

wow!!...I guess I need to try to find a looper...I really like my crossflow though. I sure enjoy reading the stuff people have done, tried, etc...with success and without. I would rather not shorten life...I guess one big thing would be increasing compression...hence the premium fuel?? What are the differences in the two engines?? I know the looper has less of an angle...90 vs 60 degree isn't it?? Are they less apt to come out of round? is the 90 degree angle one of the reasons the crossflows come our of round cylinder wise?? I've read that alot.
