Re: crossflow?

Crossflow describes the flow of fuel/air mixture and combustion products in the cylinder, above the piston. In a crossflow the load enters thru ports from one side, gets stopped a little by a cast deflector on top of the piston, and after the combustion the waist leaves thru the other side. On a looper the load enters thru opporsite ports and gets mixed in a loop circulation, after combustion the waist exites thru exhaust port. And your 1984 V4 85 hp is a crossflow. You can tell be the look of the four bypass ports on side of cylinders.

Re: crossflow?

From 58 up into the early 1990's. Typical of those 90 degree blocks. The inline blocks were loopers.

Re: crossflow?

When did the inline motors become loop-charged? late 70s? OMC made those 40Ho crossflows for a long time...

In the 90s, V4 and V6 motors were 90* and 60*. I think all 60* motors were loopers and some 90* blocks were crossflow and some were loopers. Some 90* V motors were loopcharged in the 80s I think.
