Anybody have or use the Garmin Nuvi 500 yet? A search resulted no info on this model. It is apparently fairly new. The Lowrance XOG seems to get mixed reviews.

I have the XOG, picked it up at Cabellas for $149. I have not used it in the boat yet but in the car it works awesome. I have had Garmins in the past and this is every bit as good. I read all the reviews and the negative was the screen brightness and battery life. The screen to me is very brights and adjustable, the battery life is not a concern for me. I have it connected to a charge in both the car and the boat. For another $99 you can get the NauticPath chip and use it in the water. I really like mine.

Re: Crossover GPS unit

rc,

Do you need the nautipath chip for it to work on the water? I really don't need charts or anything, just a basic layout of the lake so I can mark waypoints and such. My dad has an old Garmin streetpilot that has the lake on the basemap and I can even mark points on it, but if I want to travel between the points it doesn't work. It always routes me by road.

Thanks
