Crowded day on the lake!

I took the afternoon off (rain is in the forecast) and took the boat out solo. And by solo, I don't just mean on the boat by myself but also on the lake! I was the only boat on the lake. I knew I was in for a nice couple of hours when I drove in and did not see one trailer in the parking lot. First time I have been to this lake when there were no other boats. Great fun. Really got to exercise the engine. I did put my PFD on and hooked the kill switch lanyard to my belt. While there was no one in my way.....there was also no one to help IF something went wrong. Better safe than sorry!

This post is in no way meant to "rub it in" to the winterized guys - just wanted to share my experience (since there was no one to share it with at the lake!).

Happy holidays to all!

I know what you mean by being the only boat out on the water from shore to shore from your view. I like being out in the gulf and all you see is water on the horizon from all directions and no one else in sight but the very distant shoreline. I don't like to venture out too far in my boat since it's only an 18 and a half footer.

Good 'ol So-Cal Weather!! What Lake? Big Bear, Silverwood or Perris? I sometimes miss knowing that virtually every day it was going to be sunny and 70 something!:)

Yeah, which lake? Last weekend I made the mistake of checking the weather at my old house in Costa Mesa... 80 degrees... versus the single digit wind chills we have been enjoying here in southern Michigan. :(

I was at Lake Piru. Here is a photo of the parking lot with just my trailer. The temps in the 80's are no longer, we are now in the 50's with a few days of rain in the forecast.

A week and a half ago we had the same condition ... the lake was ALL ours! Of course it was 20 degrees outside, the wind was blowing, and all the launch ramps were too flooded to launch a boat. I can't imagine why no one else was on the lake?!?! ;)

Re: Crowded day on the lake!

one of my fondest memories of my first boat is taking it out on a January day on Apache Lake outside of Phoenix. Just me and the boat. Almost no wind and the lake is situated between large cliffs, it was so smooth and the reflection was so perfect it was difficult to tell where the water ended and the sky/cliffs began.

I now boat in Lake Washington, Lake Union, and the Puget Sound in the Seattle area and wouldn't trade urban boating for anything .. where else in the world can you be sitting in the boat with a great view of downtown, seaplanes taking off over your head, and floating houses? More than makes up for the 7 months of "non-boatable weather"

Sometimes I feel like I'm missing the party when I take my treks to less crowded lakes in Eastern Washington. Anyone else feel this way?
