1994 Crownline 250crIMG_1700.png94 Crownline 250cr. Cannot figure out how to get this gas tank out. The engine has been removed. All the fasteners around the tank have been removed and it slides freely ,no room to tilt back and obviously the plywood across the bottom stops it from coming out that way, the only thing I can assume is the plywood firewall behind the tank must be removed from inside the boat and taken out that way am I correct? Thx for any help!!

since you have the motor removed, get a pic from the transom forward (you can take a pic thru the transom shield) should be able to lift and pull

There’s only 3 inches or so of clearance before it hits the top. It needs to come up at least 6 to 7 inches to clear the plywood on the bottom. If you slide it all the way towards you and try to tilt it forward there isn’t nearly enough clearance.
I can’t help but wonder if they didn’t put the tank in first and then add the plywood across the bottom afterwards?

On my '88 SeaRay, the interior frames had screws holding them. Once these were out the engine and fuel tank were easily accessible. On the other hand, my neighbors Boston Whaler outrage broke a stern eye. Unfortunately the stern eyes had been installed before the top cap was put on. There is no way to get to the inside of the transom to replace it.

Cutting out the interior plywood isn't that big of a deal. It may need replacement anyway. Seal the ends of any wood that is raw after your cuts. Be careful not to cut or screw thru the hull.

Tanks are always installed first then the deck is installed.Your going to have to cut out what ever is in the way and rebuild later

I had to cut out the Aft cabin bulkhead and deck above the tank

Like alldodge said, the tank was set in place, then the hull set on top of it. That also goes for pretty much everything else. The hardware is installed while the cap and hull are apart.

in my 1988 Cruisers (in the sig), the tank was on a tray in front of the motor originally with a bulkhead panel in front . I could pull the tank out with some strapping, however after the restoration work, I had to make a notch in a floor support to get it to go back in as the hose connections would not clear

Unless you get real lucky like with my ‘88 Four Winns which has a full length hatch cover over the tank.

Not so much for us repair guys. An easy initial assembly doesn't mean easy access later.
