First off, I do apologize if I posted this in the wrong place as I wasn't really sure where to post this.

Well, I am in the market for a new rig, and this seems to fit the bill. The first versions that alpha, crt, and so on had issues. According to a few folks on some other sights, the issues were apparently corrected. Anyone here try one of these?
Im thinking of ordering one as soon as H&Y has them back in stock.

FYI..

Also, I did send H&Y an email. I asked when they expect another shipment of these rigs. I am going to guess I will not hear from them until Monday. I will repost the reply as soon as I get one. (just in case someone else wants one too)

Never heard of 'em. Made in France. For that kind of money, I'd pick up a Galaxy.

Check out Copper Electronics.

Royal0014,
Thanks, but NO thanks.
I have a galaxy98, and to be honest with you they are not worth cr*p. Matter of fact I have had many galaxy's, and they WERE good at one time. The 99 I had, and the 98 I have now display the same problems. They share the same mother boards, as well as other brand radios. If you have 450 bucks to spend for (1)...great! I do not. As a matter of fact these two radios both were sent back to galaxy right out of the box for repair, but still same problems. Well I could ramble on ,N on, N on, about export quality, but Im done with these low quality, over priced cereal boxes.

Anyway, back to the original topic.

I've certainly never heard of that brand of radio. I don't typically buy no-name equipment.
If buying new there aren't a lot of options for good 10 meter radios. If buying used, the old Radio Shack HTX-100 can't be beat. I've seen them go for $75 at hamfests.
I'm assuming you are aware that an FCC license is required to transmit on the 10 meter amateur radio band and you have one. If that's not the case I suggest you take the test to get a license or stay on the 11 meter CB band. The test for an amateur radio license isn't too hard for a technically inclined person. It doesn't require knowing morse code anymore either.

I agree with the above post. Spend the time and get your first level Ham License (Tech) and give that a try. After you have been playing around then...... you will have the desire to upgrade.

I have a great deal of respect for OTR driver's but here are a few examples of a basic ham radio. On the most common chat band (2 meter) you will be amazed on how a small pocket sized hand held radio can communicate from vehicle to vehicle and even have access to using it like a telephone. I have talked with people well over 100 miles away via a repeater.

The next level of license is the General, a bit harder however.............. how would you like to have access to a mobile radio that will permit you to talk to people in any point of the USA and foreign countries.

I highly endorse getting your Ham License. In most areas there are radio clubs (explore the http://www.arrl.org/) and look up about Licensing in your area. The exam fee is $15.

Now as for your original question............. do not purchase a no name radio that you might never be able to get parts/service for. I would avoid that radio.

You might be amazed to find out how many OTR driver's are licensed and using ham radio.

(side note - I am going to a small Ham Fest next weekend here in VT and that is usually the cheapest place to get equipment and best place to get great radio advice from other radio operators ;))

Thank you for the tips. I have been on the air for 28 years now, so I am well aware of the up N up.
