Re: crusing rpm
Hi all I have bought from a friend of mine an 86 Doral Colt....15ft 10in....with an 86 erude 90hp. I like the boat, have been going out in it for years so know it's life history. I'm on Ahmic lake Kenny so as you know have lots of lake to play on. With the lock in Mag can go 40 miles from Ahmic Harbour to Burks Falls. My question is any ideas on a good rpm for covering water without sucking the tank dry. It will run high 30's amost 40 mph at 5500 rpm, but thats sucking it back. Seems to be pretty smooth at the 3000 to 3500 range, anyone else have some input?.....thanks.....cheers
By God I love that lake !!!! Went to Lake Conestoga last weekend. Nice but nowhere near as nice as Ahmic. We will be there again next year so hope to bump in to you (not literally) out there. We stay at the Ahmic Lake Resort cottages when we are there. You know, the place with the swiss restaurant on it.
I think that 5,500 rpm at WOT is good. My 140hp Johnson WOT range is 5,000 to 6,000 rpm. My 14" X 17" pitch prop will run 6,200 RPM and my 14" X 19" pitch prop runs at 5,500 RPM at WOT. I use the lower pitch for pulling up skiers and the bigger pitch for cruising and tubing. I usually run around 4,000 rpm and 35 mph when cruising and it is not only comfortable but quieter for cruising. Hope this helps a bit.
By the way, where are you in relationship to where I stay ???
Great to see you out here and have a fellow "Ahmic Laker" to chat with.
Look forward to chatting out here,
I have some photos of my outfit in the Doral section here. Why dont you post a few of yours.

Ken.
