Just wanted to tell some folks about the wonderful trip to Crystal River we just took.
My girlfriend and I wanted to do something different last weekend, a bit tired of running up and down the Suwannee river.
So we had heard that Crystal river was nice and decided to go check it out. Trailered the boat down there, and went exploring.
Ladied and Gentlemen that place is beautiful. With some of the nicesest people "locals" I have ever met and it was hands down the ost pet friendly area ever. We could even take the dog to some resturants. Kings Bay is amazing and right now there the Manatees are coming in for the winter season and are great. If you go be sure to check out the three sisters spring area. Also you can run about 8 miles or so out to the gulf, great fishing if you are into that.
All in all great place to visit. We parked the truck and did not move it for 3 days. Just boated everywhere we needed to go. Awesome place. A couple of hotels even have ramps onsite for launching.
Well worth the trip.

I'm not familiar with the area. Where did you launch? Campgrounds? I am looking for a spring break place. Went to Yellow Jacket on the Suwanee last spring break. Looking for something with more springs we can get into with our inflatable. Couldn't take the boat into any on the Suwanee. I was disappointed. I was expecting a series of Silver Glen Springs up and down the river, and it certainly was not like that. Is there anything like Silver Glen on Crystal?

Crystal River is nothing like Silver Glenn Springs. do a map quest, or google earth, you will see it is very developed. Silver Glen is hard to beat.

Welcome to the "Nature Coast" as we call it. This area has some of the best fishing and sightseeing of any place I have lived in Florida. Also, there is literally no pressure as there is South of us in the St. Pete, Tampa area.
We fish out of Bayport and I have come to expect great results every time I launch. The ramp and parking here is recently remodeled and access is great to the many reefs and hard bottom fishing spots minutes from the ramp.
Here is a link to one of the local motels and attractions there in CR...also another link to a guy who fishes that area a lot.

Yes three sisters is amazing. When you snorkel in thru the old wood gate and come up it looks like something out of Gilligan's Island. This is where I had a face off with a blue crab that wanted to own me.

Rock Crusher Campground is a great place to camp. One of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed at.
