Curious - What does the "O" mean in my model number

I've got an '89 Tracker Evinrude 40HP. The model number is TE40ELOEC. I've gone through all of the model identifiers, but i can't figure out what it means. Any clues??

I think an accident happened to the middle C. TE40ELCEC matches 1989.
