I am in the process of removing and replacing the deck, stringers and transom. I would like a to install a ski pylon strong enough to use with a tube. I am considering using a pole mounted to the hull through the deck. Can I glass the base to the hull and stringers? Should I only glass the base to the hull to avoid stringer damage? Should I forget the whole idea?
The boat is a 1985 Capri CC with a 90hp Merc. outboard.
I figure the entire length of the pylon to be about 4' from base of hull to the top.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Re: Custom ski pylon

I would go look at someone's fish and ski and look at the removable ski pylon that is on their boat. My Astro fish and ski had one, and it mounted in the rear casting deck, in the same screw in hole as the fishing seat did. Then there were two support poles that ran backwards (like a shallow tri-pod) and also attached to points on the rear of the casting platform very near the transom.

Although it said you couldn't use it with a tube, I pulled tubes on that pylon successfully for two years, every other weekend at the lake with as much as 5oo lbs. worth of fat butt buddies on a two person tube, and never had a problem. I would fashion it along those lines.
