Re: cut-off switch

It should already have such a feature. Are you using the correct ignition switch, and is it wired properly? Do that and it will do what you want.

Re: cut-off switch

The cut off circuit for these motors shorts the two magneto lines together. On a key ignition switch, these are the two terminals marked M, which are (normally) shorted together when the ignition switch if in the off position and are open (not connected) when the key is in any other position.. A simple kill switch (in addition to the key switch) is any switch which will short the two lines together when depressed or activated. I added a lanyard type kill switch to my 40 that way; the new kill switch was run in parallel with the existing "M" terminals on the existing key ignition switch.

Re: cut-off switch

the boat had no controls, steering or ignition switch-just the wiring harness
what about putting a switch in the runaway gizmo that is forward of the heat exchanger or what ever that flat thing is that you told me not to fool with?:)
Let me add this ,I surely enjoy this forum-both the questions and the answers
I quess that says I dont drink as much as I should or screw as much as I should or earn a buck as much as I should-but any way High Praises!

Re: cut-off switch

The runaway gizmo ( vacuum cut-out switch) is only hooked to one of the magneto wires. But, if you follow that wire up to the top, you'll find the other magneto wire for the other cylinder. The kill switch will short those two wires together. In the wiring harness one of the magneto wires is black, and I can't tell what the other one would be.

Re: cut-off switch

Two more questions if I may-Do the spark plug wires go straight to the magnetos & if you have a magneto type igntion do you have coils?

Re: cut-off switch

The spark plug wires go straight to the coils. Under the flywheel you will have points, condensers, and coils; one for each cylinder. There are magnets on the inside of the flywheel.

I want to thank every one for your replys & ask two more questions/do you remove the flywheel to get at the coils ,points ,condensers, ect.,& if so does it require a puller of sorts?thanks again
