what is the best way or proper way to seal a transom, i have a carilona skiff that had a 20" transom, i cut it down 5" to fit 15" motor. the transom is foam core no wood, i sealed the cut with West Systems, than a coat of paint. will that seal the foam or do i need to do more?

Brent,
You might want to read through some of these previous posts for more info. Just click on "Search" above and put in "Transom Repair". Lots of good info! Good Luck,

What kind of filler did you use? Whatever the case, I would build up several layers of fiberglass cloth with the west epoxy. Crab Bait should weigh in here.

yeah,, just in time..

yes,, SCO is right.. should do somethin' to make it look good & so no water can seep down into an freeze & crack.. even tho you did coat the foam with epoxy..

good ,, but good enuff..

like he said,, coat a few layers of epoxied glass cloth on/over the saw cut .. it'll keep it strong & the glass from chippin' in time..

than coat the harden cloth with some MARINE TEX epoxy putty.. coat & sand as if spackel to hide the weave & to feather edge/blend the cloth to the original boat surface .. sand ,, wash down with ammonia an paint.. no primer needed or wanted..

all these ideas are good ones, Brent, another option that I have used on port lights may work well here also, is to remove about an inch of foam from the cut down area and replace it with a mix of epoxy and filler, this will seal it and also give the edge a lot of strength. then cover with a couple of layers of cloth......
