What does the Cylinder Bleed Hose on at 1984 Mercury 90hp inline 6 do? Is this something I should pull and check both directions with air to see if there are any plugged areas or might I ruin sometime of directional valve?

Does this hose need to be of "fuel line" quality if I replace it? Or any black hose that is the same size from a car parts store will suffice?

Re: Cylinder Bleed Hose???

It routes pooled fuel from behind the reed valves to some point where it can be used.

They need to be in good shape.
They need to be fuel line. Tygon will work, but probably not marine certified.
Murkery hose is expensive, but will probably last another 25 years.
They run fuel, so they usually stay clean.
The check valves should be checked if suspect.
Symptoms of failure is usually bad idle.

hope it helps

Bottom brass fitting is one way valve. Top fitting is straight thru... Hose pumps fuel/oil to top main bearing.

Yep, I decided to suck on some crank case fumes yesterday so what you said John is dead on. Chris, Thanks for the exacts on the fitting as that verified my lung based results.

Basically, I could suck but not blow ... works and I did manage to get fuel grade line replacement.

I did just realize that both fittings have a one way valve just in case anyone needs to know. One allows out (top) only and the other in (bottom) only.

Re: Cylinder Bleed Hose???

oil needs to go from bottom to top. Is that the way your one-way valves are working?
