Cylinder Rebuild?

Hi all,

I had my boat out yesterday and it started giving me problems. She ran fantastic for 10-15 minutes then it just dropped a cylinder as I was cruising along. Took it home and pulled the plugs. The plug in the #1 cylinder was fouled with a few aluminum shaving. The other cylinders appear to be fine and have plenty of compression. Can I have just the one cylinder rebuilt or does the whole thing need to be done? Can anyone give me an idea on an avg. price to have this done? Motor spces are 1979 Mercury 70hp, 3 cylinder. Gas is mixed 50:1 and it's not overheating or anything.

Thanks for any input!!

Re: Cylinder Rebuild?

The same thing exactly hapened to me last summer. after receiveng 4 wrong pistons I finally have the right one and am puting it back together now. will let you know how it works.
It ruined my piston and scored the cylinder wall some. I have honed it and hope it will work. i will watch for more posts from someone more experienced.

Re: Cylinder Rebuild?

Yea, let me know how it goes. I really love this motor and don't want to buy a used motor with hidden prolems. I figure if I dump the money to have it rebuilt it'll pretty much be good as new. Just need to know how to proceed and some idea on cost so I can go into the process informed. Anyone?
