Try running the correct size tap into the threads. It may cut the threads enough to still use the existing size bolt.

Thrid agreement, try retapping it first and if that doesn't work then move on to the next most drastic thing.

Just remember not ot super torque that bolt.

What happened is not all that unheard of, you'll have to be more creative to come up with something new. A tap in the threads should work well. Don't worry too much about the little step, it looks like it's outside the gasket sealing area. Once you get the bolt working smoothly, lay a straightedge across the gasket area. That corner may have dipped a little depending on how hard it hit. If it is bent let us know and we'll walk thru the fix.

As above.... but if you don't have the tap on hand already and need to buy one, if you have access to a reasonably well stocked machine tool supply house, get a "forming tap" rather than a "cutting tap". This should clean up the thread and minimise any more material removal.
Explain to them what you have to do and they will fix you up with the right tool.

Re: Damaged Crankcase cover

I don't have a tap that will fit it, so I will go get one. Im not sure about a machine supply house because I live in a rather small town, but I will check around (Napa, Lowes, or Tractor Supply may be as good as it gets locally). It will be Friday before I can get to a store and get one, but I will let you guys know. Thanks again.

Lowes or tractor supply should have them.
I have also seen cheap sets at Autozone...

No luck on finding a forming tap, but a cutting tap did just fine. It is slightly dipped, but I dont think it is enough to affect the seal.
