On Memorial day weekend, we were pulling the boat up onto the trailer, and somehow knocked a bunk off....I didn't notice it until we were pulling the boat up the ramp, not soon enough for it not to cause damage. Things could have been much much worse, but I'd like to get some input on the proper way to fix the gouge. It's about 4"-5" in total length.
Mine was abused by the previous owner.
I bought a gel coat repair kit and tried to color match the gelcoat. My color was off but atleast it's sealed up now. Just follow the instructions make sure you don't take too much material out when you wet sand it.
Before:
http://www.uberstorage.com/tex/public/Boat/keel1.jpg
http://www.uberstorage.com/tex/public/Boat/keel2.JPG
http://www.uberstorage.com/tex/public/Boat/keel3.JPG
After:
http://www.uberstorage.com/tex/public/Boat/repair1.JPG
http://www.uberstorage.com/tex/public/Boat/repair2.JPG

Ouch, that looked pretty bad....

Was that just a gelcoat repair kit you had, or a fiberglass repair kit? It looked like yours went all the way through the fiberglass. Mine still floats fine and doesn't take on any water because it didn't go all the way through the fiberglass, but I'd still like to take that gouge out.

It looks worse than it was. It went all the way thru the gelcoat but didn't effect the fiberglass. I used the boat a year without any leaks. I just had to fix it because it bothered me that one day it might leak. This is the kit i used. http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi?prod_id=5217&current_category=gel coat repair&*******=538703017
It's hard to match the color, but luckly yours is on the bottom and not in plain sight. Make sure you add enough hardener. I messed up the first time and the gel didn't set. I was afraid of adding too much and having it set before i wanted it to.
--Hop
