I damaged the prop on a 1997 75 HP Force outboard today and need to know how to order a new one. I have the manual to repair it, but I can't find out how to tell the pitch of the prop. How do you know? It doesn't seem to be marked on it anywhere! My engine is rated at 5250 rpms at WOT, but the most I can get out of it is 4400 @ WOT. I was told this because of the prop. :( What prop should I order to get the rpms closer to the 5250? Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated...........the waterguy

call the boat shop, tell them what motor you have..make sure you have the model # handy. He will be able to look it up and get you the prop that came on it from the factory
good luck,
no4njnk

Often the pitch is printed on the hub near where the prop nut goes.

A rule of thumb is 200-300 rpm more with 2" less pitch. Things get
a bit hairy if you start changing the prop diameter, composition,
and cupping at the same time.

Good luck.
Mike

I don't know how much damage you did to your prop but it may be repairable. Take the prop to a prop shop and let them look at it. If it can be repaired it will be a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

THe reapair shop can even alter the prop to another pitch so may have the WOT thing solved at the same time.

Thanks guys for your fast replies. I will call the repair shop first thing in the morning. I didn't look at the area around the nut on the prop for the pitch. I only found the letter "R" stamped on the outside of the prop near the top???
