Hi, I am new to boating....
I'll try to explain the best I can so I get get HELP from the people who whos best.

I recently noticed my 1990 RAnger boat/Evinrude XP 175 (14 1/2 X 24 propeller) is loosing power when taking off.

Im little bit confused, I was told by a local repair shop that its not my engine having the problem, instead I was told its probably the propeller clutch going bad, and that my propeller needed to be sent for repair....

This is how it started:

I take off from boat ramp like any other normal day, day setup at a place and start casting. after an hour or so i try to go a couple of miles away but cant take off to where my boats planes and feel smooth. It feels forced and heavy to the point where it wont accelerate to take off, RPM go up but wont advance.

What can I do?
Is it my propeller clutch?
Or what can I look into?

Re: Damaged Propeller Question!

I'm not sure what a propeller "clutch" is, but normally a "spun prop hub" is the culprit. Most props have a hard rubber insert in them that breaks free (slips) when the prop hits an object. This saves the prop shaft(and motor) from damage in most cases.

A prop shop can re-hub your prop for a reasonable fee.

Most late model props have replaceable rubber hubs. You need to remove your prop and examine it to see if your prop is the type.

Thanks for your quick response...
I the plastic spun hub You mentioned, as u described,it I do remember the man from the repair shop describing something like that.

Ill give it a check and see if this is what is causing the issue....
Is this type of repair expensive?
