New development, As i'm pulling the motor apart, I'm finding everything that was used to assembly this motor was from the autoparts store. Carburetor is wrong, distributor is wrong. New carb will be ordered shortly for marine use. I was wondering is there a huge difference between an automotive HEI distributor and a marine distributor besides the advance? is the vacuum advance and the advance on my HEI distributor going to give me issues? This thing never did seem to run 100%

The Coast Guard would probably miss it. Murphy is the one you need to worry about.

And vacuum advance is totally useless in a marine engine only good for high rpm light throttle which you never see in a boat. When will people learn....

Yea, that was my main concern... Probably why it would fall on it face at high throttle...
The more i dig into this thing the more i realize the guy who put this thing together before me was an idiot.
