Went fishing yesterday knowing that there would be alot of yahoosss out on the busy labor day weekend. Decided to of the beat a path from my normal spots knowing that they would be all fished out and of course, I would not want to devulge on the areas I fish.

Just after setting anchor, (2) Jetski boats go screaming by within 100 ft. of my boat between me and the mangrove tree line. Within and hour or so, another Seadoo jetboat with 3 people on it goes zippin thru.

I continue to fish with no more disturbances. While heading back to the Marina, I passed a no wake area and just as boats where comming off of the no wake, jetskis were jumping the boats wakes.....

What is up with all of this congestion...is it only going to get worse. Do I need to continue my offshore fishing and just give up on the inshore business????

Owe woe is me!!!

i hear ya man. i live on a canal in Indian Rocks Beach and they come flying up and down the canal at full speed. If i go fishing on the weekends i do it in a no motor zone. at least it slows some of them down.....

Re: DAMN those pesky PWC on the water!

Yesterday I was working on my dad's pontoon boat, idling around in the cove where we have our dock. Even though the lake was empty, here comes a pwc. He starts doing loops round and round, so I go out the the main body of the lake just to get out of his way. About that time I hear his motor stop suddenly, and I look to see he has run up on the bank (lucky for him our water is down about 10'). It took him some time to get it back into the water, then he paddled it back across the cove to a dock. Sorry that he had a problem, but it is indicative of the lack of control some have on their pwc.

Re: DAMN those pesky PWC on the water!

i used to do alot of local trailriding and 4x4ing. getting back to a lake to fish that nobody else uses is fun. But i got out of that mainly due to the idiots on 4 wheelers and dirtbikes who loved to haul butt down the trails with blind turns. on more than a few occasions i heard them coming and pulled off the trail only to have them come blasting around the corner where they would have plowed into me.

Now with the boats is like you mentioned. idiots on PWC and also idiots on speedboats and ski boats. there's a local lake here thats very nice, not alot of good fish(mudfish at em all) but still makes a nice morning of being on the water fishing for brim. that is until about 10:30 when the ski boats and PWC show up ruin it all. when you get there in the morning the water is very clear and calm. they show up and it literally has about 2 inches of visibility.
i have ridden jet ski's, yeah they are fun, for about 5 minutes. hey look, i can go fast! woohoo, i can turn and go fast again! whoopty do! now what? alot of the people i know with jet ski's either sold em for boats or they are sitting in disrepair waiting to get fixed and sold.

either way they put so much wake on the water i just leave when they show up since they have no respect and will go buzzing by me too close.

if i witnessed the jet ski hit the bank i would have made sure he was ok then reamed em out for being such a idiot.

this is a sore topic for me.

We call them "Water Lice" or "Jet Fleas".

I guess the rental business's like them?

A tournament bass fisherman I know carries a cheap walmart CO2 powered paintball gun in his rod locker for just such an occasion. Have to admit I am considering it myself.....
