I read in "The 12 Volt Bible for Boats" that jump starting some modern outboards equipped with microchip technology can damage the electronics. Is this true with Yamahas, 90hp and up?
Re: Danger to Microprocessor/Microchip(s) when jumpstarting
water,

You betcha. It's not so much the jump starting that kills the electronics, it's the loose connections (battery) and a surge of current.
Re: Danger to Microprocessor/Microchip(s) when jumpstarting
Never connect the booster with the ignition on. Connect it, make sure it is solid, then start her up. That way you avoid any voltage spikes getting to the ECU.
