Hi all! Hope everyone is well! I just had to share this. 128 is a major highway here and this caused a real mess.

Boat jumps ship on Route 128

This is what happens sometimes when you rock the boat.

A 31-foot Bayliner boat fell off its trailer in Burlington yesterday at 12:15 p.m. and landed on Route 128 south across two lanes of traffic after the driver reported front end troubles with his Ford truck.

The boat, christened “My Watery Toy” by its owner, Scott A. Langevin, 37, of Millbury, had just been picked up from the Danversport Yacht Club. Burlington firefighters had to dam a small gasoline spill from the landlubbing ship. The roadway remained closed until 1:55 p.m. after the spill had been cleaned up, according to the state police.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation, police said. No one sustained injuries

Your subject title reminded me of a long past memory.

Years ago I was working with a man named Jim Smith whom could best be described as "a crusty old marine surveyor". I do not remember what we were discussing at the moment but somehow I brought up the subject of Bayliner boats. Jim's immediate response was "I wouldn't use a Bayliner boat to hit a hog in the a$$!!!"

This comment is not made to offend anyone. I believe that years ago Bayliner did not have the reputation as a quality built boat, and I do not know if that reputation has changed or not.

The whole point is Jim's comment and the idea that I have made it mine.

Regards to all,

Re: Darn Bayliners (LOL!)

I consider a few points with possible explanations......

When the boat either broke it's bow tie down (or however it failed if it was even ever tied down) the overall length combined with a pick-up was long. Gave plenty of leverage to pivot that trailer up and down on bumps.

One the boat started to move it probably reverse pressured the hitch by lifting on it..... hence the front end steering problems.....

I imagine it was quite a bit os scraping when it went off!

Too bad. They have flakey reputations in the water and now on land too.

Wow! A brand new 31 footer sliding down the highway. Bet someone is a bit upset over that one. Hope they have insurance.

Boats are like people, some have character and strength and some do not.
