Hey guys/gals.

I have a 72 Glastron that I'm thinking about adding some modern touches to.. What do you think of the mock up. I'm thinking about mounting the depth finder right in the middle or where the tach is.
Would that be a convenient place, or just be in the way?

I want an iphone mount for the GPS features and maps. Kind of like a chart plotter.

All opinions are welcome.
Here a some shots...

Re: Dashboard mock up.

It would make for a cool looking dash. But I can see one problem right off with having it behind the wheel. I watch my fish finder very closely while I am trolling. I would not want any obstruction of the screen for fear of missing some detail that would help me catch fish.
Solution- You need another sounder! Then you could mount one you can see in the dash and another while you are casting off the deck. See you win twice.:D

With the depth finder being right behind the wheel and all, I was giving it second thoughts also.. As I always look at my depth finder.
Maybe I will just keep it mounted on the dash. I dont have extra cash to drop in another finder....:)

Re: Dashboard mock up.

Bringing the gauges up and out from behind the steering wheel was the main reason I changed the design of my dashboard. My original dash really didn't have enough room for any gauges anyway. You have a lot more room to experiment without a complete rebuild like mine. I went through quite a few pieces of cardboard as well before deciding on a layout that I could live with.

Keep the pictures coming. Like most on this forum, I enjoy watching the process and I always learn something new.

Check out my dashboard project in my signature.

This might give you an idea of what it might look like with your template.

I'm disappointed that Don copied your fishfinder to the new location instead of moving it and then trying to reconstruct the area where it came from to look like it was never there :p

My idea might be a little more expensive, but I like it!

Now there is a ideal that's needs to be exploited....Bondo get that copy writed ASAP....To the mods...Bring this to some of the buyers attention...I-boats in house brand.... Better get on it before someone else does..;)

Lets see Instant product recognition....backed by yrs of solid experience...

Ayuh ya think.......Another overnight succes phenom...Dont laugh

Opps back to the topic....Rather than using a plastic base it would worth the effort to use a metal product...Plastic fractures at the mount points in a few short years...And changing around gauges is not fun..Doing it over again that is

Re: Dashboard mock up.

Keep the updates coming. My pet project is a 73 Glastron.. and appears identical to yours in the dash.

I was considering trying to rebuild not only the panel, but the two dash tops/frames entirely, perhaps curving the tops (concave upwards).

Re: Dashboard mock up.

Same here, but I had a plastic dash overlay on my 75 that crumbled, so mine is going the Oops! route....glass over foam mock up.
