1972 Crestliner 17 footer, pretty decent shape. Paint is way too fresh to be original, so I think it's been repainted. Big question...can't find the data plate. It's not on the transom, not on the dash, where else could it be...and if it's nowhere, how big a problem is this? With Illinois DNR (to get title and registration?) With the USCG (if they spot-check me?) Any help is greatly appreciated, as always...

Re: Data plate missing!!!

Contacted the dealer who sold the boat to the current owner. Dealer says that prior to 1973, there was no standard; some manufacturers put a data plate on somewhere, some didn't. After 73 the data plate location and info was standardised. Dealer says no problem, he still has sales records on the boat. Sound right to you guys?

Re: Data plate missing!!!

My apologies, Knot2much. I thought they were required way back in the 60s. I had a '66 Sakonnet stolen. When it was recovered (at the Canadian border) the plate was gone, but the robber hadn't removed the registration number from the bow (DUHH!).

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
