i wish i had a underwater camera. was snorkeling today, it was only chest deep and for a solid 5 minutes thousands of silver bait fish swam by. im not saying thousands to make a good fish story, it was thousands. they were jumping out of the water people were screaming. it was a awesome sight. after they had all gone i got back to swimming around, then i saw what was chasing them, 30 or 40 snook. they were mostly 3 feet long and fat. i swam around with them for about 15 minutes. beautiful fish and they were not skiddish at all. the kid i was with was almost able to touch them. i dont know if its snook season yet or i would have gone back fishing tonite.

alaway be aware, if baitfish are presant the possibilty of feeding sharks is elevated.
the few shark bites we get here are always the same story, early or late in the day and an abundance of baitfish near the surf line.

Re: day at the beach

actually there has been alot of shark sightings this year at the beach i frequent. last week there was bull sharks. near the beginning of summer a couple of snorkelers came flying in to shore almost running on top of water, black tips about 50 yards out. on the other side of the pier there has been nice size nurse sharks all summer. i know that there is nothing i can do except be careful. i would like to see a shark or two but am very happy to not.

Nothing can get the heart pumping like being waste deep and then see only about 10 feet away the dorsal fin of a shark sticking about 10 inches out of the water. It happened to me a few years ago. It was late in the day and I was the only person out there...gez
