De-Carb question

I was going to de-carb today using Mercury Power Tune. I had planned on doing this with the hose (muffs attached), but the directions on the can say clearly and in caps "DO NOT operate on a flushing device." I'm not sure I can get away with doing this on our local water way. Is there really a problem when doing this with muffs?

Thank you.

Re: De-Carb question

Is this the stuff that you just mix with the gas? If so, it won't be very noticeable on your local waterway. I don't see any reason you can't do it on the muffs, that's what I allways do with Seafoam.

ZmOz:

No, this is Mercury's spray (Power Tune). You spray it into the carb in-takes.

Re: De-Carb question

Well, I wouldn't worry about doing it on the muffs, it's basically the same thing as Seafoam. In fact, I would be more worried about doing it on the water, because of the high likelyhood of fouling a plug or 6. :) Does it say anything about what RPMs to use it at? Maybe they want to to use it at faster than idle, which is not ok on the muffs.

Re: De-Carb question

Thanks, ZmOz. It says spray in at 1200 rpm's, then increase to 2000, and stall the engine with product. Wait 15 minutes or longer, then full throttle for 5 minutes. I suppose I could spray it in, then during the "wait" run to the river. Sound like a good idea?

dont run full throttle on muffs. spray it up and let her stall out then take her to the lake and run her like you stole it. changing rpms helps lossen stuck carbon

I'm headed out right now to "do the deed." I'll post the results tonight.

They say not on the muffs because it is not a good idea to take it past 2k on the muffs. That means you can't open it up after it soaks, and you don't want the disolved carbon residue to dry back on to the cumbustion chamber. I wouldn't wait too long before you blow the residue out.
