Is is safe to use SeaFoam on a V8 the same way I would on an OB?

When I had an OB i would put one can of SeaFoam in a small gas tank and add enough gas to equal one gallon, then run it through the engine a high idle. I was just wondering if this would hurt a 5.7L

Follow the instructions on the can. It really does clean out a engine very nicely. DON'T add extra SEAFOAM for a " better " job. Follow the instructions.

A better choice for an i/o or inboard would be GM top engine cleaner. It pours into the carb of a warmed motor until it stalls, let it sit for a few hours and start it up and go like H3ll.I suppose the seafoam can be used that way too.I would expect minimal benefit from just adding it to the fuel of an i/o or inboard.Charlie

Wow that GM top end cleaner is good stuff. Just be advised that you will get a lot of smoke and it will stink for a bit when you start it up.

Bob

Seafoam's Deep Creep in the arisol(sp?) spray can be used much like the GM top end cleaner..

Spray'd down the carb of a running engine untill it's loaded up, shut her down (if it don't stall on it's own), then let it sit for a while..

Same "smoke like crazy" on start-up...

Down a carb does not clean a boat from gas tank to fuel pump to fuel filter to carb or fuel injectors to the whole engine. Plus a 1/2 can of Foam into the oil 1 or 2 weeks before a oil change. It does sometimes also stop oil leaks on the outside of the engine.
