De-Winterize and Old Gas...

OK, for some of us, it's time to start thinking about the de-winterization process. For me this includes dismantling the cover and getting the strategically placed moth balls out, as well as getting rid of the old gas (1-2 gallons). What do you all do to de-winterize and get rid of the old gas? Do you put the gas in the family/tow vehicles? Does that make them smoke a lot? I don't have a lawn mower/tractor so that option is out, and gas is just too darn expensive to just take to the dump/gas receptacle....

I use old gas to dump on yellow jacket nests, fire ant hills, pour down snake or rat holes, start brush fires, etc.;)

I leave the gas just where it was when I winterized, in the boats gas tank. It will get used this year when the boat goes in the water. I've been doing it that way for 22 years and have never had a fuel/carb problem because of old gas.

I would not worry about a couple of gallons . . . If you want dump a thing of carb/fuel injector cleaner in the gas to 'dissolve' things.

Filling the tank will take care of any concerns about 1 or 2 gallons of fuel. In fact -- six month old fuel is not "old fuel" and will run just fine.

I have found that the dilution of "old" gas by adding new gas takes care of any problems.
I just top off my tank and away I go with my 60 Mercury 2 stroke.
I only leave a little gas in the tank when winterizing the boat and it is stored inside, but unheated.

Yup just fill it up and you will be fine, as Silvertip sadi thatsin't really "old" gas, as long as it was in th tank and t was sealed it is fine.

Next year get some Stabil in and you relly won't have anything to worry about.

Beyond that check your lower oil if you didn't change it in the fall and fire it up.

Good suggestions all....thanks. I think I'll just fill 'er up and not worry about like you said. I forgot to mention that I did use blue stabil (man they really upped the price on that stuff). I usually run most of the gas out before the season ends but last season I got caught with weather not permitting the "last ride" which is calculated to get rid of the remaining gas.
