What would cause a battery to go dead if no electronics were left on and the key was in the off position?

Went out this morning to go fishing and the cranking battery was dead and just last week it was fine.

I have a evinrude '93 90/65 jet and the batteries are about 4 weeks old.

Thanks guys.

Re: Dead battery

new batteries, can go bad, have load tested. this is easier to do at night, but disconnect the ground cable, in put a test light between the post and the cable. if you get the slightest glow, you have something drawing electricity. start pulling fuses until you find the culprit.

Re: Dead battery

Went out and got a cheap test light, $2.99 at local auto parts store, hooked it up and found out it was the radio that was drawing the power. It glowed very very faintly but after pulling the power on the radio it wasnt glowing any more.

Thanks a bunch for the help its greatly appreciated.

Hah, that's happened to me before as well. You'll find newer radios aren't "off" when they are "off". You might want to put that on the "accessory" circuit.
